“This Is Where We Dream” Explained

“This Is Where We Dream,” might be my favorite piece of art that I’ve ever created. It goes so deep for me.

“This Is Where We Dream” April 2021

It all started with a dream. I had a dream when I was 13 where I was accidentally sucked into the wrong dimension in the universe. A girl about my age from another dimension noticed me on her couch. I had just been sucked out of my reality and plopped onto her couch.

Immediately, she said, “Oh no, you are not in the right place,” and she pulled out a rick and morty time portal gun thing. She struggled to find where my reality was. Then, she grabbed my hand and we flew through all of the dimensions out of the dream world. When I looked below myself I saw the map of the universe or maybe the map of the dream world.

When I woke up I felt like that was the place where dreams occur.

Seven years later, in April,  that memory randomly came back to me. I was inspired to make a piece of art of this map I saw that included certain abstract representations of real dreams I have had.

I made this piece while sitting on the floor of my studio one late night listening to chill beats.

It is made of oil pigment sticks on canvas. It is 30” x 40” x 1 ½.”I love looking at this painting every day. This piece is part of a dream series of similar work. They are all very similar, but this one is my favorite.

Do you ever feel inspired to make art because of a dream? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear about it.
